Individual Idea
Synopsis: My idea was to create a psychological horror. A teenage lad called James became possessed by his next door neighbour. He would become uncontrollable at a certain time of everyday and would commit several murders. He confided in his friend for help, but after refusing to listen to him, he hung his friend in the college. James soon become obsessed by a teenage girl in his class. After stalking her for months and waiting outside her house while she sleeps, he asks her out. But when she turns down his offer for going out on Friday 13th, will she survive?
Setting: My idea would be set in on dark, dingy streets with flickering street lights. It will also be set in a class setting as this will be relatable to the target audience (teenagers), enhancing the horror factor.

Film Distribution and Marketing
What is meant by film distribution?
Film distribution is the process that takes place in order for a film to be available for watching. An example of these companies would be Warner Brother, Universal Studios and Dream Works.
What does a film distributor do?
A film distributor is responsible for the film to be brought to the audience. They could do this through putting the film in cinemas, putting the films in shops for sale. The job role also includes marketing the film and giving it a release date which is vital when trying to produce a popular movie.
How does research relate to film distribution?
It is vital to try publicise the film as much as possible in order for the film to become popular. It is important for advertising to reach a variety of media platforms such as Facebook and twitter which would be used in order to maximise their audience.
What is meant by a marketing plan?
A marketing plan is a file which is made in order to plan how they will market and advertise their film.
What is meant by distribution plan?
A distribution plan is something a manager would produce which has ideas of how they will transfer their film from each stages. Such as from the cinemas, into the shops to buy.
What is the difference between advertising, publicity and promotion?
Promotion of a film is when it encourages the public to go see their film. This could be done by the actors or actresses who star in it. For example, Daniel Radcliffe promoted The Woman In Black by doing an online interview which was posted on YouTube. Publicity is when attention is drawn to the product. Advertising is done carefully through materials such as merchandise, trailers, posters etc.

How research impacted our trailer idea?
Setting- Stereotypically horror trailers are set in dark, derelict and eerie places to add to the fear of the unknown. By keeping this in mind we had a scene where the main character was walking through a graveyard.
Technical Code- By using the camera shots we produced a lot of over the shoulder shots, which develop mystery within the scenes as you can not see the persons expressions. A lot of close ups are used in horror trailers in order to portray emotion. All the shots need to been shown at pace to build up tension.
Iconography- We followed some typical iconography for our psychological horror such as a ouija board. By using low key lighting we produced a scary atmosphere.
Themes- Our horror trailer followed the good vs evil theme as it was the final girl against the demon. However, we do not have a distinct character to represent the demon as it is psychological.
Narrative and Character types- As mentioned previously, our trailer includes a final girl character. This complies with Props ‘viginal final girl’ as she survives. The villain would be the demon.
Representation- The final girl goes against the main conventions of the tittle as she is blonde yet she survives. Whereas most blondes are perceived as dumb and therefore die within the film.
Audience and institutions- I researched into the woman in black as it is a popular horror film. It suggests that producing posters and magazines is an effective way to boost popularity. Our audience research suggests that comedy horrors are the most popular horror genre. Although our trailer is psychological, over 66% said they would watch our film.
